How Skill Pulse Scores Are Calculated (And Why It Matters for Your Job Search)

By the Gatoms team

Every month, Gatoms members complete a domain-specific assessment — a set of applied problem questions calibrated to their declared role category and experience band. The raw result is one input into your Skill Pulse score, but it isn't the only one. The score is a composite: assessment result (60%), consistency of completion (20%), and trajectory trend (20%).

The trajectory component is what makes Skill Pulse genuinely different from a static score. A member who has improved from 62 to 78 over four months is ranked higher than one sitting at 75 who hasn't moved. The signal isn't just where you are — it's where you're going. For a recruiter scanning a feed of 40 verified profiles, that distinction matters considerably.

Consistency is scored on a rolling 6-month window. Missing a declaration month doesn't zero out your score, but it does reduce the consistency component proportionally. Members who complete every monthly assessment without a miss accumulate a consistency premium. After 12 consecutive months, that premium is locked in as a baseline — it doesn't decay even if you miss an occasional month going forward.

The assessment itself is adaptive. Questions are selected from a pool calibrated to your tier band. If you consistently score above 85%, the system introduces harder questions drawn from the next tier up. This means scores can momentarily dip when difficulty increases — which is expected and noted in your score card. Recruiters see the difficulty context, not just the raw number.

In the recruiter feed, profiles are ranked daily. The ranking uses Skill Pulse as a primary sort for equivalent experience levels, with recent activation status and placement eligibility as secondary factors. Members in active placement show a distinct badge — enrolled companies have committed to reviewing those profiles first. This is the operational advantage that makes Skill Pulse history worth protecting.

"The signal isn't just where you are — it's where you're going."
