Staff Engineer

About this role

Global Bank is modernising its technology foundation — moving from legacy monoliths to a cloud-native, API-first platform. The Staff Engineer role sits at the technical leadership level, responsible for cross-team architecture alignment and driving the most complex engineering decisions in the organisation.

You'll be the technical lead for a strategic programme spanning 3 squads and 25 engineers. Your job is to set the technical direction, identify and resolve cross-team dependencies, review high-stakes designs, and work with engineering leaders to keep the programme on track.

This is a rare opportunity in BFSI — a true Staff-level individual contributor role, not a manager-in-disguise. You won't own headcount. You will own outcomes.

What we're looking for

• ✓7+ years of engineering experience including 2+ years in a Staff or Principal IC role
• ✓Deep expertise in distributed systems and API design patterns at enterprise scale
• ✓Experience working across multiple teams as a technical lead — setting direction without direct authority
• ✓Strong Java and Python background; understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
• ✓Ability to write architecture documents, conduct design reviews, and represent technical positions in leadership forums
• ✓Bonus: experience in regulated financial environments (SEBI/RBI compliance context, audit trails, data residency)
