Senior Backend Engineer

About this role

We're building India's most reliable real-time payments infrastructure, processing over 40 million transactions daily with sub-100ms p99 latency. You'll be joining the core platform team responsible for the services that every product at Fintech Unicorn depends on — from consumer wallets to merchant settlement to regulatory reporting.

This role focuses on distributed systems design and high-availability service architecture. You'll own large backend services end-to-end: greenfield design, code review, on-call, and performance optimisation. We operate at a scale where a 10ms regression in a hot path is a production incident.

Beyond IC work, you'll be a technical anchor for a cross-functional pod of 6–8 engineers and two product managers. You'll drive architecture decisions, mentor 2–3 junior engineers, and collaborate with the platform reliability team on observability and incident response.

What we're looking for

• ✓4–7 years of backend engineering experience with proven ownership of production distributed systems
• ✓Deep proficiency in Go, Rust, or Java — you can discuss memory models, concurrency primitives, and GC tuning
• ✓Experience designing and operating services at high throughput (>10k RPS) with strong SLO discipline
• ✓Track record of leading technical projects across multiple engineers and shipping without hand-holding
• ✓Comfort with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger or equivalents) and incident post-mortem culture
• ✓Bonus: experience with Kafka, Flink, or stream processing; fintech or regulated-data environments
